Hakshiva is a non-profit, full-service organization committed to helping children and their families build healthy, successful and joyous lives. We believe that every child deserves a loving, supportive presence in their lives to help them with their emotional, social, educational and spiritual needs. This vision has been implemented successfully by creating a holistic model of programming that has dramatically improved the lives of thousands.
Hakshiva fulfills our mission with:
Mentoring Programs
Mentoring is one of Hakshiva’s most popular and longest running programs. Our programs are based on the knowledge that a caring and supportive mentor can make normal life struggles more manageable and hopeful. Whether in school or afterwards, children meet twice weekly with their Hakshiva mentor. In school the focus is on academic help while after school the meetings may be structured around studying, art projects, going for walks, playing games, playing music together, or going out to eat.
Educational Services
Hakshiva believes that children should always have their best chances of succeeding in school, because we’ve seen that early experiences of educational success pave the way for smoother learning and social success in the future. Thus we offer a variety of academic resources to fit different students’ needs. Whether a child can benefit from our Homework Center or needs more specialized guidance in adjusting to school, we can help. We also encourage parents to ask us about our referral program, in which we help navigate the process of professionally evaluating one’s child to identify if any learning disabilities are hampering his or her academic success.
Teen Programs
Hakshiva’s teen program serves a broad spectrum of teens. Hakshiva proactively offers a wide spectrum of programs to meet teens where they are in their lives. Our teen programs include:
Our Teen Drop-In Center, located in Ramat Bet Shemesh, offers teens a safe space to relax and socialize.
Our exciting Educational and Skills Development Groups, which meet once a week for various lengths of time, offer teenagers the chance to discover experiential learning—whether they are currently enrolled in school or not.
Our Crisis Intervention and Guidance Resource provides short-term solutions—such as medical attention, police/legal involvement, or shelter assistance—to emergency situations involving Ramat Bet Shemesh youth. Our experienced staff members may serve as mediators between the teen and various agencies such as the Welfare Department, police, and truancy officers.
Whether we receive a call from the teenager in question or their parents, our staff members provide as much aid as possible and do the utmost to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Our Girls High School Program provides a forum for our communities young women to air their thoughts, ask questions and seek guidance. Led by an educational guidance counselor and a team of professionally trained facilitators, the program is run in partnership with local high schools for girls in 10th – 12th grades. This program provides an invaluable setting for the discussions so important to teenagers: an understanding environment where girls feel comfortable talking about the issues that matter the most to them.
Therapy Clinic
Our Therapy Clinic offers a variety of professional services and programs created to meet the specific needs of the community we serve.
The clinic offers therapy for teens and families as well as guidance for parents as well as professional referrals. In addition we also offer workshops addressing common challenges facing teens and their parents.
